TOPIC: Certainteed Shingle Settlement

I just saw a TV commercial for a class-action settlement lawsuit against Certainteed Shingles installed between 1987 and 2005.

It actually said that while the vast majority of these shingles are just fine, and a "small percentage" of them "can" fail.

Anyone heard about this?  What's my liability now!!??  Now am I going to be held responsible if I don't find this "small percentage??"

OEM Product Defect Litigation and related issues won't involve us or the roofers who've installed the product.  Just like we're not responsible for CPSC recalls.  I do remember Russell Ray turning the research of recalled items in homes into its own separate revenue stream.  As I recall, he charged big bucks to run your house through every recall possibility you can think of. 

Wow!  What a job that must be!  You'd have to show up with a couple of encyclopedias full of serial numbers and photographs, put the people up in a hotel for a month and go through every item in their lives...

I have seen the defective shingles many times, they have hairline cracks throughout. I posted info somewhere. I believe the shingles are smaller in size. Usually the architectural type.

I spoke to a roofer about them and he gave me some info,like the smaller size. Now I need to go find the post and reference.

I called it out at least 2X last year and both were on homes about 15 years old. I believe they do not make this shingle anymore.

Agreed!  Seems like Russell would charge like $995.00 minimum and then photograph everything in the home that's attached including model numbers when possible.  From roofing to dishwashers and everything in between.

Now that I think about it, I've not seen or heard from Russell in a while.  Maybe he's no longer in business.
