Davin - that room in particular, and the house in general, has lots of problems.  It was a long report.

When rooms don't feel right, hot or cold or damp or whatever, or the house is developing cracks or literally, like in Will's post, there are reasons which can be identified.  Thermal imaging is definitive.  The builder cannot say the wall is not hot or cold.  IR can pinpoint exactly the reason(s) for things that are happening.

I know builders around here who are NOT happy with me.  Once on a pre-drywall, I was talking to the clients about how insulators are not stapling before drywall.  The supervisor told them they they always require stapling.  I told them to go into the house a couple of doors down and look at how the insulation was not stapled.  I then told the supervisor I would be back in 10 months to demonstrate to the clients with a camera how the insulation had slipped and that the builder would be responsible for repairs.  He got the message and they began stapling.

It is SO easy to staple at the beginning and so HARD to remove drywall later, protect people's stuff, do the repairs WITHOUT doing damage to the existing structure, and take hours and days to do it.  It is stupid not to do it right the first time.

I have been saying for some time now - in a couple of years home inspections will come with IR as part of the service.  Those inspectors who do not do IR will not be doing many inspections...  The only way they can compete is with a cheaper price.  People will recognize that this lower price means less service and an incomplete inspection and that news will get out quick.

IR has been an arrow in my tool quiver for 5 years.  I was way ahead of the loop.  Sure it cost me initially, but it made me a lot of money too!
