Dave - did you mean colonoscopy?  That's when you look inside the colon.

A colostomy is when you cut off part of the colon and hook the end into a hole in the abdominal wall, onto which you attach a bag to collect your, well, collectibles.  That's what happens to people with Crohn's disease and other bowel ailments.
