TOPIC: A Sad Commentary

Re: A Sad Commentary 14 years 4 months ago #33437

The troop tries to visit a different camp every year.  Powhattan, Bonner (Boddie), Durant, Bud Shiele, Raven Knob are the ones we have tried over the last view years.

I liked Powhattan.  Cooler weather, lots of activities.  Bonner is down east on the coast.  Durant is south of Raleigh.  Both are very hot but good programs.  Bud Shciele is in the Mtns of NC but still very lot last week.  Smaller camp but they have a real bugler.

The troop sends a crew to Philmont, Northern Tier, or Florida Sea base each year on a rotating basis.  Last year Philmont, this year NT.  I am looking forward to returning to FSB next year with my sons.  Last time I was there was 30 years ago.  My sister was staff at FSB for 2 seasons.  This is the 30th anniversary of FSB.

SM are important role models for young men.  I appreciate the work you guys do.  I make a better ASM than I would as an SM.  Good technical craft and woods skills but weak on motivating people.

I like Powhatan too, but we seem to go to Goshen more.  I am the dutch oven king.  Love dutch oven cooking.  Philmont is a great program but expensive and hard to get the boys to try to raise money to go there.  I have never been to FSB, but have heard great things about it.  Maybe one day!

I used to plan Order of the Arrow Ordeals.  Loved it!  Haven't done that in a while, but that is always a great time.

I bought a hand full of tools once and when I got home I realized I didn't get charged for one of them.  Next time in town I went to the store to pay.  I almost wished I didn't.  The teller gave me quite a hassle because NOW she had to think.  She couldn't just pass her magic wand over the bar code.  (deep sigh) NOW what am I gonna do with the till?  (deep sigh) NOW the till will be messed up. (deep sigh).  NOW how am I gonna reconcile the inventory?  (deep sigh.)
I almost felt myself apologizing and telling her that I wouldn't let it happen again.

Casey's right and you were right Bert.  Something like that happened to my wife who was given too much money ($200!) by the teller.  She went into the bank to give it back and they raked her over the coals!  They made her sign papers, and write down an explanation of what happened!  It took her over 1/2 hour to give the money back!  I think next time it might make sense not to make the bank think she robbed them!
