TOPIC: double booked by agent

Had an inspection today at 12:30 pm or at least I thgought I did. I arrived early as usual. Agent and client were not there yet. I rang the doorbell and asked the owners if I could start on the exterior. I get about a half hour in a truck pulls up . I am thinking well maybe it is the client . I take another look it is another inspector. He said he is booked by the agent to do a 1pm inspection. I asked by who and he said the agent who already booked me. He calls the agent and he has a discussion with him and he gives me the phone and the agent say he is sorry but he forgot to call me and cancel because this is the guy that he usually uses but when he booked me he didn't think that he was available. He says he is sorry and asks can I will give you gas money or something! I am pretty upset about this and I tell him I am sorry that is not acceptable. I drove about a half hour each way and I was already a half hour intothe inspection and that is not including any prep work I do at home like looking up the house on the MLS. He asks what is acceptable I tell him It was more than hour of my time which is at least $125.00. So I tell him I would accept $125.00. Which is a bargain he says how about $100.00 I stuck with$125.00. Nice guy huh

That really stinks. At least you stuck to it and got the fee for your time.

I am really not that upset about the money or loosing the inspection. It is what the agent did to me. It was like a put down.

I can understand that. Has this agent used your previously?

The world is filled with idiots!  Unfortunately for us, we have a disproportunate amount of same in the Real Estate Industry....

Over the years I've learned to not look at every aspect of the home inspection business from a pure revenue standpoint.  I have a list!  On that list are agents and clients I absolutely won't conduct business with.  I don't care how lucrative the project, if they're on the "No Fly" list, it's not happening....

I agree with Will (as usual).  I have an agent doo-doo list too.  It is not that large, but there nonetheless.  We just don't accept calls from those agents.
