Agreed Dominic, but the fact that the Fire Department inspects the House for similar things is what the misconception is.
People in General, are gullible to the fact that if they have the Fire Department go through, they feel safer already which is caused soley by the misconception of the fact they are Fireman.
They will do very little to educate the client. Only point out what is a necessity and leave. They get paid by the hour no matter what.
Some are not trained to do this, but the uniform usually paints a different picture in the clients eyes.
In this area, the Fire Department only goes by what the Life Safety Code Mandates per the NFPA 101. Nothing more. Why?
They are not inspectors.
To break that misconception on how people see the Fire Departments Role, as protectors and consultants, will be a political game to convince the clients to hire you when you charge for it and they don't.
I am trying to get all my facts together before I attempt to go meet with the Fire Chief and discuss this any further.
This whole thing puts us in a position where we will be faced with the typical question from clients;
Why should I pay you to do a fire safety inspection when I can have the fire department do it for nothing and part of the tax structure?
Sure, if one is a smooth talker which I am not, you can probably sell it. We are in competition with the Fire Departments that inforce Life Safety and wear the Uniforms and don't charge anything, so I think my competition has me beat before I start.
But I am willing to give this a try. I think what Drew put together will be great once we land the inspection, but first we got to get them to utilize the functionality of the inspection procedures.

Just food for thought and thinking about this whole thing.
I sent a PM to Drew but haven't heard back yet. Anxious to see what he put together.
