I've had a tablet and a laptop. The tablet is strictly for reports and business stuff so I don't have the security issues with being on the internet. That said, I won't have another tablet. The eyes are getting too old for the smaller screens. The tablets are great for checklist style reporting. For those that use a more narrative style, I find the need for the keyboard and screen size outweighs the need for portability. I don't and will never issue reports on site. Each to his own.

There is nothing sweeter than the smell of fresh cut grass on a baseball infield, the click of a wooden bat and the taste of a hot dog at a warm sunny daytime double-header.

Steve, Thanks for the input. Just wondering, what's your thinking behind that decision? Any specific legal concerns you think on-site reports bring up? Thanks, Cameron A. |

I don't like accidentally missing items and having to send addendums or revised reports because I was in a hurry. It gives me time to add longer captions to my photos. I have a long report that includes lots of commentary and specific client friendly information. (Avg report is about 50-60 pages).
I only do 1 inspection a day. I talk with my client a lot during the inspection and that is how I build a trusting business relationship that garners more referrals. That and these old bones don't like damp crawl spaces. Once in a while when it needs to be done, I will do two, but those are rare days. I did 5 one day and would never do that again. 7am to 8pm. Yuch. |

Cameron:
I use a tablet, (Fujitsu T4215) carry it around the house and enter data as I go (as Dom says - not into the attic or crawl, if there is one) I set up my printer on the kitchen counter, print the report with a Cannon ip100 printer, burn my photos on a disk and I'm done No report time at home, except to save the report and photos to the desktop. Hope this helps Cheers |

Are you just burning the photos to diskfor your clients or do you insert them into HIP with captions, etc.? I've been timing myself using different methods of handling the photos and I'm trying to figure the best method to choose. Takes me about 15 minutes to add 50 photos, assign the sections and add custom captions. I can reduce that by using the drop down list of comments which show up after I take notes. I would love to get photos down to about 5-7 minutes tops, but that's moving pretty fast. |

After about 6+ months I am going to give the CTL2 another try. I have the Q with me in case I have issues with the stylus again.
I have an afternoon radon drop and the code to pm later afternoon inspection, so I have an extra hour to use the CTL2. To each his own on report process, but I feel rushed and I do not like making the client to wait around while I do there report on site. I think proof reading is essential before sending report to client and agents. I also like to add illustrations and research if needed. Just feel more comfortable with this process. |
