Re: comment time saver 9 years 6 months ago #61088

Lets not forget, If a roof or electric panel has multiply problems, I may have clicked 5 or 6 issues from my list of comments...ie, Double Tap, overfused, wire nuts, etc.  Then it's only one additional click to move them all to my Damage Panel.

That's what I was think too Dan. It's usually less than 2 clicks each comment because of that. I don't like the idea of moving over to black, then moving your mouse and then moving to red. That's too confusing. I'm still open to ideas though, keep thinking!

I agree with that ,, may be confusing to move to black then to red.. but here is a scenario ,, under damage panel when I find now issue my report says OBERVATIONS OBSERVED: None Observed  .. I click the none observed comment , I would to click on the once instead of clicking and sending it over with another click. I thought of a material panel but I need both of them , maybe a third panel of some sort ,, not sure , any ideas?

Les, as Dominic said.., you don't want to get too confusing. 75-80% of your report will consist of "Selection" & "Damage Panels" where everything is OK. Use the Merge feature to pre-select as many comments as possible. I have comments preselected in my Merge File for 2 1/2 Baths..., if the Master Bath has a loose toilet, then I'm only modifying one toilet and the rest of my work is done for me.

One of my engineering professor's said..."you can waste more energy trying to develop the best solution, instead of developing a very good solution!".

Part of what's great about HIP is it's simplicity. Focus on how to make the software & hardware work best for you.

Dominic has provided solutions that work great for most people. I have found that some of my comments I want in different colors after I have selected it to RED in the Damage Panel. FOR ME...would it be nice to change the color at this point?!...Sure! ...but that may not be a benefit to most and could get confusing.
So what I do now is put some of my comments in both Red & Blue, then in the future I select the comment in the color that works best for that report. Works perfect for me.

Les, I would say...focus on the big picture.  What are the (3)areas that slow you down most when report writing?!  Is it Template Layout, common comments not written, not being able to find the appropriate comment, etc...

hey dan great advice .. I hear what you are saying, I am pretty much stream lined on my template, i have worked with top inspection programs with out saying names and found ? that unless you can write your own you can not get everything you would like , there are many different needs for inspectors depending of what part of the country you work in ,,, i have found HIP since the update to version 3 and the upgrades to mobile version work for me best , i have done 3500 inspection on the old paper booklet days when it was accepted , now everyone wants pictures in report , i switch to software reports back in 2006 and with my doubts were it will go ,, i wanted to just get thru my inspections as site like i did back when i did the paper booklet or at least as close as i can , i am also an home inspection teacher in new York sate and since i switched over i have recommended HIP to my students and even demonstrated it in class. i am always trying to think of any improvement to speed up along with being ? still efficient in the industries .

Sounds great Les!  I agree,...it's always good to look for improvements and how to be more efficient. It's part of what I enjoy about what I do.
