Oh, and Peter, to your original question "yes" I do find the iPad mini to be easier to use than the iPhone. One unexpected benefit is the larger screen of the iPad allows you to take photos with excellent focus which eliminates the need for multiple photos and then selecting between your different takes. Also the larger screen allows you to do less scrolling to find your comments. And finally, the keyboard is much easier to use if you're just typing in a quick additional word or two to your comment.

Hi Cameron,
Thanks for your reply. Quick question, I don't fully understand your comment "I also started framing my photos differently. Since HIP has really high quality photos in the report I figured I can step back a little and frame the context and location of the photo which saves me from having to notate that in the captions or the comments". By this do you mean, breaking down sections in a report into more clearly defined sub-sections so each picture taken fits into a clearly defined sub-section. Peter |

Cameron, download from the cloud again and give it a different name. Go to the Client Data folder outside of HIP and rename the .hzf to a .zip. Then open the zip and take your pics out and insert into the working copy of the inspection you have.

Sorry for the confusion, I was actually speaking about taking the photo. Previously I would be much closer when taking the photos of defects and the context or location of the photo wasn't always identifiable. With the mobile version, I'm widening out my shot more when taking photos so that the location and context can be seen. This saves me from needing to notate in each individual note the location of each defect, which reduces the number of dropdown lists. I use the highest quality setting for photos so clients can zoom in if they need to see details in the defect. I should also clarify how my report template is set up because your comment above makes me realize something. I actually purposefully do NOT break down the report into many different sections and that also saves time. The report is a system by system style, so for example the walls in the house are all under one section: Interior - Walls. I don't do room by room and so I'm not clicking through a large number of sections when inputting data onsite. Using a system by system is fewer sections to click through, but it makes clarifying the context and location of defects more important, because headings or section titles aren't doing that for you. That's why with more generalized comments I decided to use the photos to provide my context, a picture is worth a thousand words. I still have to clarify some comments and specifically detail the context at times, but I was doing it on nearly every note previously. |
