I do not know if this has been discussed before. I searched and did not find a post so here it goes. I am starting to use illustrations in my reports and find that it would be so handy to be able to copy and paste photos in the report on the fly as well as the standard import of a directory of photos. Being that I am exclusively with a MAC I download my photos from my camera to iPhoto. I also have some illustrations in iPhoto. I would like to be able to select an illustration from iPhoto, copy it and paste it In my report. Maybe this could be incorporated in the damage panels where the photos will now show up after annotating them to specific comments. Even being able to paste them into the photos area would be an advantage. What do you think?

You can import illustrations on your Mac using the normal Add Photo button but you do need to export the image from iPhoto first. An actual copy/paste or drag/drop from an external program into HIP is unlikely to happen anytime in the near future. Something like that has to be coded drastically different for each platform (Windows/Mac) and we try as much as possible to have the exact same code for both to reduce bugs and keep features rolling out as quickly as possible. The other big problem is that iPhoto does not allow external programs to access files within it very easily for security reasons.

Much better now that the photo "add" has thumbs though still needed for sketch.

Robert:
I use a Mac Book and I have a Folder saved on the Desktop with standard illustrations. If I have a short or non-existent TPRV extension for example I include the photo from the inspection and then just add the illustration from the Desktop folder. It is quick and easy. John |

O.K. Dominic, I know that I can copy/Import photos from iPhoto by first exporting them to a directory and then importing them into HIP. But, you say for the MAC users in the 3.o upgrade to test the import directly from iPhotos. How do you do that?

Hi Robert,
I had a few guys email me and tell me importing from iPhoto was working for them. What I mean is when you click Add Photo or Batch Add you select a folder within iPhoto then import. Let me know if it works for you. |
