New Jersey has one of the most stringent HI licensing programs in the country. Equal to or second to Texas.

Thanx Drew, we are #1. In Texas we also have the TREC inspection reporting form required to be used. What do ya'll use in other states especially non licensed states for reporting. Can you use whatever you want to report with? or is there a standard report used by all, even if not enforced?
What is everyones thoughts on licensing? I have no problems with it, or with insurance requirements either. I don't see why it shouldn't be required with something as important as inspections. Texas licensing requirements are tough and only about 30% pass the test the first time. But isn't that what weeds out the unqualified. I had taken an optional exam prep course before taking the test. Most in the class had taken the state test previously and failed at least once, some multiple times. There was an Elvis inpersonator sitting across from me that had failed it 5 times. I aced the test, but wasn't over confident before taking it after taking the prep class and seing the failure rate. I wonder if Elvis finally passed?

Well Gary, Mickey can inspect even though he has no license in CA. You don't say what your thoughts are on license requirements. Wouldn't licensing in California get rid of the Mickey Mouses from inspecting?

Joe, Yes I think a license should be required everywhere. People need to know who is inspecting their home, and who they let in the door. To get a contractors license in Calif. you must submit to a life or live scan investigation can't remember the exact name. You need to be bonded and should be insured, any less for an inspector would be short changing the public.

We had a lot of people fill the same as you Gary. Most of the people have a background in building. I did classes for the many state from the great lakes to the gulf coast and most people in home inspections taking the class to pass the state test dad worked in the building home. After the first wave of classes then came the wave of people that wanted to go into it to make them legitimate by have a license never building in sales and other things. We had 400 people pass the 1st year and after that for years we had droves of people getting into home inspections we had 400 after the law was passed and now we have over 4,000 people in it in NC. I made money teaching  people how to pass the exam. If your state passes the law you will have a lot more people in your line of work and prices will go down for inspection.
