TOPIC: Default Report

Re: Default Report 14 years 1 month ago #36200

Jim, yes you can definitely make a template for whatever you want and make it the default. Heck, we even have a few guys doing playground inspections with the software.

I talked over templates with pre-selected comments quite a bit with a group of guys at the inspection conference last weekend. One issue that was brought up was if you load a template with pre-selected comments, how will you recognize the pre-selected so that you remember to de-select them if it's not an issue? How many comments would you actually pre-select? Saving 10 minutes would equate to around 20+ comments. How much would a house vary that you'd be keeping more of those 20 than removing them?

This is the place to discuss this! I'd like to hear some more input.

Dominic,

I have also thought about the possible issues with forgetting to un-check/deselect items. With my previous (word) software it was never a problem as I completely went over the entire report item by item; I think we all do that anyhow. For me it seems like I am selecting quite a few common item over and over again (weather, single family residence, all the appliances working one by one, grading, foundation, types of materials; ect.). I am using the Texas template (modified), not sure if that makes a difference with the redundancy.

Anyhow I was also thinking that this my not be much of an issue with a touch screen computer as I have never tried one; (getting close to pulling the trigger on a CTL to go as soon as the high res issues are worked out). With my mouse and stranded laptop its feels boring and time consuming to select similar items over and over, (20-40 ea. report).

Thanks for your help Dominic,

Steve

I totally agree with you Dom.  After I played with the program a bit I see that it would be worse to have to UNCHECK and write custom comments then it would be to simply add them as we go.  Iam currently working on my own custom template with terms and wording that I use, so its all good dom.

I have a few photos, illustrations that I add every inspection, grading, smoke alarms, attic venting. It would be great to have these in place for every report. Time saved 1-2 minutes.

I always add at least 10-30 of the same comments in the selection panels pertaining to AFCI, grading, trees, shut offs, web links. It would be great to be able to save in the default template. Time saved 5-10 minutes.

David cant you just make your own template and have the special pics in your template by default?

Definitely faster with the touch screen on site. Bob Hintze sent me his high resolution model which I'm supposed to get in the mail tomorrow. So I'll be checking out what changed in their high vs. standard resolution over the next week.

Going over the report (the PDF) is definitely one solution and something I hope that most guys do, but I've noticed that quite a few guys don't.
