TOPIC: Common Cracks

Re: Common Cracks 12 years 4 months ago #49357

My first big foundation pour Steve, was with my Father back in the early 60's. Wheel barrow and mixer on the job.
Hard work. Still there, wish I had pictures.  :) ;)

What about different colors? I only use red on safety concerns. Repair items are orange, and the rest are blue. I wouldn't want my client freaking because they saw all those red items! Stephen, the water your dad used was the trick. I poured concrete with wife's uncle when I was young (many, many, many eons ago). After the pour, we kept water on it a minimum of 4 days. He would return to a site to ensure his client was keeping water on it or he would water it daily. One memorable pour was a warehouse that was 85 yards. 4 of us did it in one day! I had never worked so hard for so little money. And since I lived closest, I was instructed to go "water the pour" for the next 5 days in a row. That was in 1982, the building is still there, and the concrete does not have one single crack. I doubt anyone nowadays takes that kind of pride in their workmanship (except us inspectors at HIP!!!) ;)

Black or red for me.  It either works or doesn't.  It is either safe or it isn't.  It needs upgrading or doesn't.  And since defects are all red, that is why I print the summary at the end.  By the time they read through the report, the client has become used to seeing red.

With the different colors, half way through the report they have forgotten what they mean and have to go back and forth to the key.

JMHO.

There is nothing sweeter than the smell of fresh cut grass on a baseball infield, the click of a wooden bat and the taste of a hot dog at a warm sunny daytime double-header.
