TOPIC: Deck Question

What Steve says is not new, at least around here.  Decks beside concrete block foundations need to be through bolted here.  When they cannot be a post and beam structure is needed.  And if a deck's ledger beam is the same height as the rim joist, it must be through bolted.  Post and beam supports, here, are required beside bump outs and bay windows, which are not structural, and lots of deck guys and builders are putting in the post and beams all along the house. 

When you say masonry you need to be specific - masonry veneer, solid brick, concrete block?  Veneered brick is not a good holder, for the reasons Steve said.
