Make sure you disclaim it on your contract AND in your report Dave , otherwise you're opening yourself up to a potential lawsuit. Any expert witness is going to be another inspector and the first question they will ask is 'what would the average inspector do', the answer will be to test it.

Dave - things will always happen.  They have to me.  You need to do what your conscience asks of you.  Peace of mind is worth a million bucks.  You made some good lemonade there!

Dominic's comment is a good one though.  You won't be breaking that many.  The 2x4 on the ground is a good way to test a garage door without your being perceived as doing damage if the spring should break.
