How did the process go? I know in quite a few countries it can be a huge pain (we tried to adopt from Croatia a few years back as that's where my dad's from and they had tons of kids in orphanages after the war but they still wouldn't let us even though he has citizenship).Dominic quote.
That's the sad thing. A lot of these countries would rather have these kid's suffer rather than let a foreigner adopt them. |

The Guatemalan process was rocky. We used an agency from Delaware who had an attorney in Guat. We accepted our first referral and then a month later a second referral came in and since the Federal Gov. said yes we said yes. It was supposed to be a four month process and it turned into a 9 month process. My wife lived as their foster mom in Guat. for six months and my oldest daughter for two months. My oldest went to an international school in Gautemala for the last semester of the fourth grade. We were lucky enough to get out before the Hauge Treaty kicked in and they all but shut down Guatemala. The corruption is like I have never experienced before and we are just glad to be out. Our process is fodder for another thread or even a blog. :-\

I asked my dad about the process in Guatamala over New Years and he described just what you said. They are alway changin the rules or denying people's applications after they've been there months.
Glad it worked out well for you though! |
