TOPIC: E & O Insurance

Re: E & O Insurance 12 years 2 months ago #50152

Not that I am advocating E&O, but the coporate veil is paper thin, for a small time operator such as myself or perhaps you. Also the veil will not keep somone for trying to sue you, which the defense of can cost considerable $$$ and time. I have always found (in my GC business) that a solid contract and complete honesty have (knock on wood)kept me out of to much trouble. :-\

Yeah the veil is a joke for single man operations. I've seen way too many inspectors who were in the right spend lots of money defending themselves. A local inspector to me that uses HIP missed some eroded piers that cost him $30,000. He didn't have E&O.

this is not general contracting. This is home inspection.

The product that you produces a document that is subject to misspellings, misinterpretation and totally incorrect information based upon a limited inspection scope.

As a general contractor if you screw it up, you have the opportunity to go back and fix it.

As a home inspector if you screw it up and somebody makes an improper decision on their investment" there is no turning back. They're screwed and subsequently so are you!

There are certain occupations that require certain insurance and if you think you can operate without any coverage because you think your spell check is 100% accurate, you live in Disneyland.

"Your last coment is you being an #*#@(*%"

"how many guys operate without E & O ?"
"I know of one for sure, me"

Why? Because the shoe fits?
I don't post here to make you feel "warm and fuzzy". Sorry.

"Coment", is that something that cruses through space or comes out of your mouth?

My point is made...
