TOPIC: Code questions - Card 1

Re: Code questions - Card 1 14 years 3 months ago #34679

What is "nominal" wood.

A 2x4 is really 3.5 x 1.5 inches.  Its nominal dimension is 2x4.  Its actual dimensions are smaller.

Except that 5/4 supposedly is actually 1.25".  If I buy 6/4 pine, it is 1.5".  5/4 pine I think is still 1.25". But I bought 5/4 cedar deck boards.  They were 1".  A bit of a rip off considering that the quarter measurements are meant to be actual measurements.
