TOPIC: Office Settings

Office Settings 14 years 4 months ago #34078

I was just curious how other inspectors use and have there office(s) setup.

I enjoy working in my offices on most occasions. I have 2 offices, 1 up and one down.

I have many stations in the basement office. Shipping, charging/tools/radon/construction report binder tables/computer/wireless printer/file storage (12 boxes, 1600+ reports)/library.

Upstairs I have main computer/office and this is where I compose the report.

I have a total of 3 computers and have 2 new ones on the way. Being the report is the most important to me (And I am sure many of you or why else would you use HIP?)
I have 2 new computers on order. The CTL2 N and a new office computer. Yes Dom it is time to give the old craptop a rest. (Main is this thing buggy)

I am just interested in how you guys/gals have your office set up. Like does your office look out at scenic views? How many computers do you have Dom? What do you drink when compiling reports. If its beer I bet the reports starts to get a little iffy towards the end.

I look at concrete block in the basement and portions of my yard upstairs. I drink a lot of green tea. And I always hope to generate a lot of business/reports.

Nothing fancy.  I have a small desk with a computer and printer on it.  Some files with the financial paper work in the drawers.  On the wall on the opposite side of the room is a bookcase with inspection related reference material.  In between these two walls is the bed I share with my wife.  That's my office.  :)

I'm split into 2.5 rooms. One room has the Color Laser Printer/Copier Fax, the mass CD Burner, paper storage and a few other items. There's a HP Touchsmart computer that I use in there to setup print jobs and control the printer. That computer comes with to Vegas and other conferences I can drive to as it's a touch screen and people can kind of get the tablet feel off it.

Downstairs in the living room are 20 boxes for a total of 2000 DVD Cases (I really need to make a new cover and start using those!). I have a desk in a nook off the bedroom where I currently have 2 17.3" Dell Laptops that I'm using. Here I can look outside or see what's going on within the house.

At the office I have a 24" Samung Monitor hooked up to a custom build quad core desktop and a 19" monitor attached to it as well. I also have one of the 17.3" laptops that I take with so that I can have live chat and any remote sessions going on it. I do too many things at once and can't let one computer slow me down! Here though my view is of 4 walls with 2 small windows up high.

Leather recliner in the living room with a book case to my right with code books and a small table to the left to set my drink on.  There is a closet in the attic with stored files.  Laser printer in the bonus room and a wireless color allin1 printer behind the recliner.

Recliner looks out the front windows of my home.  About 10:30am and 4:30pm everyday a herd of deer wander by and nibble the plants in the front yard.

Use a 15.5 inch laptop as my one and only system.  Backup periodically to an external harddrive stored in bookcase on right.

Often my "office" is the restuarant I stopped by to have lunch after the morning inspection.  Pull out the laptop, download the photos, and start banging away.
