TOPIC: Heaters in the attic....checking filter

Im seeing heaters in the attic...some time they have tape on them.
I havent been checking the filters on units in the attic.

It seems to be too much of a burden.....if its in the garage or in the house
I do take off the front and check.

I need feedback on this matter.....

We don't have them in attics here, differents climate. But, why is it bothersome to check the filter in this location? Is the unit located differently? Unless I have to dismantle the unit I am checking the air filter. This can tell  you alot about the previous owners and the possible condition of the unit.

If its in the attic most likely the filter will be in the return not the furnace

True.....I worry about not getting the covers on correctly too...
they usually have a switch tied to the cover and if you dont get it
on correctly the unit wont come on....

You are correct David.  Some of the older units have fixed return air registers and the filter must be changed at the attic mounted unit.  I also have found some of them quite difficult to re-install the covers, particularly if they are horizontal mounts.  If I see the cover bent, damaged, dented, etc..  I leave it alone, call it out and suggest a filter change.
