When HVAC duct insulation breaks, or you are trying to tape together two pieces to create one nice long tube you can use in new construction ***, it is best practice to use Vent Tape.
Yes, Vent Tape is the perfect product for such an application. It is MADE to tape vents together. Be sure you use the right thing for the right job, and you will never go wrong! This was the first time I have seen Vent Tape used, and... Oh, wait a minute. Now that I read it closely it isn't Vent Tape at all. It's Venture Tape. Gee, here I was thinking they were actually using Vent Tape. Sorry. My bad. Well, it was a good try. Maybe next time I can put out something that instructs on the proper way to do something. *** Obviously I am kidding. THIS IS NOT BEST PRACTICE! IT IS STUPID PRACTICE! DUCT WORK SHOULD NEVER BE TAPED TOGETHER!! EVEN WITH THE INFAMOUS DUCT TAPE!! And unfortunately it is typical of what I see on so many pre-drywall inspections. If you ever see something like this on a pre-drywall inspection, just look at the supervisor, point at the VENT TAPE, laugh and walk away. YOU WON'T HAVE TO SAY A WORD... Excuse me. I need to go put some ice on my headache. |

Flex only comes in one length in the box. If you need to join two lengths together, there is a proper method using a sheet metal "sleeve" designed for this purpose. It is the same as joining it to an extension on a plenum.
You will never get a system to lay out using full lengths. Are you expecting that they will throw away the cut lengths and only use full lengths? I don't think so. BTW, the picture is almost un-viewable. It's way too dark. Do a little work on the shot before you post if you wish us to see what you are trying to illustrate. |

A sheet-metal sleeve is not what is pictured here.
That picture is taken from 30' away. I will tell my camera to do better. When I click on the picture and blow it up it is fine on my screen. |

LOL, sorry I was snarky.
I have that problem too on long shots. The flash on the little digitals we all use has no "throw" so you get dark shots. I've tried using a slave flash but it did not work very well and was a pain to drag around. |

That's pretty bad Jay, especially on a new house. I was in a friends attic the other day and the duct was completely disconnected with about 4 inches between pieces. The attic was nice and cool though!

Ha! Whenever I am in a hot attic and there is a tear in some duct work, I find a nice spot upwind to perch and enjoy the breeze for a while!
