TOPIC: Feedback on HIP using an 8 inch windows tablet.

Testing the Dell Windows 8 inch windows tablet for the last couple of days. (Similar size to the iPad mini).

Initial feedback.

Portability of 8 inch tablet is great. Can update / enter comments on the go, or after each system / area is inspected. Tablet fits into a small pouch that can be easily carried.

Data entry screen looks exactly like a windows desktop / labtop / notebook so I am a lot more comfortable with the data entry, then when using my android tablet to enter the same info.

Touch screen is very sensitive so I have a tendency of highlighting numerous comments instead of one. Will have to change the touch sensitivity of the touch screen.

I am using HIP Ver 3.9 so font size can be increased for data input. I have increased font size to it's max (140%) for an 8 inch tablet. The size of the fonts should still be a lot larger to make comments easier to read on the 8 inch tablet. However this may have implications on how the input screen would look as selection and material panels would probabely have to be underneath each other and not side by side as occasionally happens. This is something that I could live with if fonts are made larger.

As a rough comparable, the largest font size on the windows 8 inch tablet is about the same size of the smallest font size on my Galaxy 4 phone when text size is reduced to minimum on the android app.  Even taking this into account I find data entry much easier on the windows tablet.

Transferring pictures over to the 8 inch tablet is awkward as I have to use a mini sim card to transfer the pictures over. I find the small sim card to delicate for my fingers and will have to find a better way to wifi the pictures across to the windows tablet.

I may start using my android camera again just for taking pictures, adding captions and merge the two reports at the end of the inspection.

Overall, very happy with the potential of HIP on the small windows tablet. Should be a lot better when HIP optimizes the inspection software to work on small windows tablets.

Great feedback, Peter! I'm in the market myself, as I look to change from an iPad2. Maybe the Nexus 7 or the upcoming Lenovo 8 (with Windows) will be the one.

Peter...good Job.  Think about using Dropbrox to transfer between Windows devices.  It works great for me using my tablet.

When these screen shots are opened up they are larger than what is seen on the 8 inch tablet.

Well, that doesn't help then! How about taking pictures with your camera of the Dell + HIP open.
