TOPIC: Preview

Preview 13 years 7 months ago #39886

I have just started using HIP and as a beginner I have a question. What is the fastest way to preview your report. I don't mean a completed report but one that is in progress. When you make changes and want to see which one looks better in the report (the way it looked or the way it looks now). I'am not talking about color, borders or font size just the general layout of the report. Do you have to generate the report and save it so you can preview it?

Thanks, David

David,

As far as I know (I've got about 3-4 weeks with HIP under my belt) there is no preview. You're correct, just generate the report and review it that way.  I actually made three generated reports "Test 1, 2 & 3" which are saved in the default save folder for just that reason. I can easily save and review when I need to and compare to previous ideas when necessary.

BTW Dom, am I delusional or do I remember seeing a "preview" button in one of the animated tutorials at the top row of icons?

There used to be a preview button. It did exactly what Generate Report does now and Generate went directly to a print screen. It ended up casing more problems because new inspectors would have a blank report open, click Preview, select a previous job thinking they could look at it and generate a blank directly over it instead (since that is what was open).

Just make sure you only close the pdf, not adobe reader between hitting Generate Report. The PDF will generate in half the time and you can 'preview' by hitting generate report as often as you want.

Unlike other programs, Home Inspector Pro writes DIRECTLY to PDF. There is no middleman to muddy things up and reduce the quality of the report. Because of this, looking at the PDF is the only real way to preview.
