TOPIC: Saving Template while writing a report

Saving Template while writing a report 13 years 8 months ago #39849

Hi Dominic,
I would like some clarification on saving procedure for a template/report.
Often, while doing the report, I re-save the template under the same name (i.e My Template, which is set as my default template), with whatever addition I have made to it - that will happen several times during the writing of the same report. I will also save the report several times during that time - just to make sure, that I do not loose my work. The question arises - are the saved template updates negating themselves in some cases?

So, lets say I made 4 updates to the template during the report so far, and I click "Save Template" before I save the report. The template is updated , but the report continues with the original (My template) = old template that the report was started with - is that correct? Now if I click save Report, it will save the report with the old template. Now I continue the report and make 1 change to the template, then I click save template - it will save the template ( My template) with 1 new change, but it will actually negate the 4 previously saved changes - is that correct?
If that's correct, then saving of the template should not be done until the completion end of the report, as not to negate the previous saves.

Now, if I were to save the report first - would it update the default template and the report's template or does it update the template for that specific report only, and ignores the " default template" ? Then I would need to save the template to update the default template also, right? Am I understanding it properly?

Additionally, is there any way to update the report to the newest version of the template - I would like to update the Sample Report, with new features, without rewriting the whole report?

I would appreciate any clarification on the inner workings of the template/report saves. Thanks

Save Inspection or Save Template as often as you want. It's saving the most current data which is exactly what you want & expect.

There's no way to load an old inspection into a new template as there's too many things that could have changed. Pages can be added or removed, ratings & formatting changed, etc. Each inspection saves a copy of the template it was created with, within the .hzf and that's what it uses when you open it up.
