TOPIC: Syncing Computers

Syncing Computers 14 years 2 months ago #35297

Hello everyone,

What method of syncing HIP between computers do you use? Are you syncing just the date files?

I have tried windows live sync and have had problems with data and files disappearing  :o

I now am using Dropbox, it seems easier to use but still am having problems with loosing data.

Any info would be apreciated.

Hi Steve,

Check out www.homeinspectorpro.com/inspector-forum...s-between-computers/ and the discussion on Alwaysync.com . Most guys will keep their template up to date and their inspection files. Make sure your date/time is correct on all machines you're using it on.

Thanks Dominic,

What files would you sync; client data, client reports and the data folders? That would keep everything that changes up to date, right?

Dominic, thanks for all your help  ;D

Yup, that would do it. Or just tell it to sync the Home Inspector Pro folder itself which would include all the files within it.

I use a program call SyncBack Pro.  It's one I reviewed about a year ago and kept it going because it works great.
As far as syncing an entire folder like HIP, it might be an issue if you have XP on one machine and Win 7 on the other.  Win 7 used a different directory structure called "Libraries" and they don't match up.  I've had some real problems since I upgraded to 7 from Vista. My 3-D Inspections quite working properly and several other issues have been cropping up. Some days I feel like witping all teh machines and taking them all back to XP!

Dana...

I have 2 tablets with XP and the desktop w/Win 7 64... is this possible with the program you mentioned?

If I'm working on improving libraries and such for IV and HIP, is there a way to sync as you've discussed? I've done this a few times and placed items on a thumb drive and so on... but haven't had a lot of luck getting *all info* in the right places as different structure and folders. It seems I've had better luck getting info from XP to 7 than in the reverse. I would like to be able to tweak things on the desktop and sync the folders before going in the field.. or finish a long report on the desktop.. help?
