I answered an employment ad looking for Home Inspectors in "Yahoo Hot Jobs". When I spoke to someone, the company was Metro Public Adjusters "The largest public adjusting company in the country". I was told to go to an information seminar about how they do things and after the seminar, there will be an interview. It sounds like a foreclosure situation.

Has anyone ever heard of this company or others like them? Has anyone had any experience with an outfit like this?

How much does the seminar cost? I know some inspectors doing foreclosure inspections that are doing well at it ($100 each, quick inspections). Not sure if it's the same company.

After a little more research I found out that Metro is an insurance adjustment company. They use home inspectors as the front line inspection of the adjustment procedure. The seminar is free it is part of the interview process. I am going with an open mind.

I wrote software program for farmerms insurance inspections a few years back. It was an easy $65 for the inspectors. You could do 10 a day if they were close, about 20 min at each site.

Well, I have an update on Metro Public Adjustment.

I went to their orientation/seminar last night. It was very exciting (by design) and I learned a lot about my homeowners policy. Having said that, they are a high pressure commissioned sales outfit. There is a chance to make some really good money but sales and production is the key.

They offer free home inspections of a sort. You go out and look for leaky toilets, stained carpets, water stains on ceilings, the stray fireplace ember that landed on a carpet or wood floor and left a mark. Your job is also to review the clients homeowners policy and show them how they can get paid for whatever mishap there is. You get paid $150.00 for getting them into a claim, then when the claim is resolved you get a percentage of that.

They generate leads at home shows, advertising, on the backs of home inspectors, real estate agents, contractors ect. They will gladly load you up with brochures so if you spot a leaky toilet, you can tell the client to call Metro and try to get a claim started. Only after you raise up in the ranks and secure a license as a Cert. Public Adjuster (which they pay for) do you actually get to work the claims that the lower level claims writers generate. They are located in 41 states so if anyone is interested look them up. There is a lot of money to be made with them, but as always there is a rub somewhere or everybody and their brother would be doing it.

This type of thing is not for me. I do not feel comfortable with the program or the way they go about generating leads. I feel it is exploitation, but If you are entitled to it in your policy...  As a home inspector, I believe in the service end, not the sales pitch.

I got an email from them the other day.  After reading it two or three times I decided it sounded like a gimmick like what you described and deleted it.

I want me and my business to be know as one that still has integrity.  You know, where my word and a hand shake still count for something.
