TOPIC: Time Out For A Recital

Very nice.  We have three children who play the piano at various levels.  Two have played at recitals.  Though neither have ever won a chocolate piano, it is a pleasure to attend the recitals.  Somehow it always seems they played better than any of the other players.  (I'm thinking the other parents think that about their brood.)

My grandparents came from Hungary in 1893.  They came from a city that no longer exists.  The "ics" is Hungarian for "ch," as in chilly.  In those days, the Franz Joseph era, the country boundaries changed all the time.  So I don't know where they came from in terms of today's map.

Jay, my parents and 2 older brothers left Hungary during the 1956 revolution against the commies. After living in the Alps mountains of Austria, in camps for a year or so, they came up for their turn to get a flight over to the US of A. They were almost turned down since my mother was pregnant. They did get their flight to the U.S. and settled in Pennsylvania in late 1957. I was born in early 1958. I was conceived in the Alps mountains in Austria. Does that count as having been there ??  I can speak Hungarian, was the first language I learned. My last name Keresztury means town of the cross or Cross town, Kereszt (Cross) tury (village or town). Jay and here I thought you were a polock!

Bert - don't you love hearing the same songs plunked over and over?  It is fun though to watch them progress and get so much happiness out of what they can do. 

Joe - I may be!  Those borders changed every month or so back then.  People often took their names from where they came, either city or province.  And lots came to PA, but I don't know why.  I know there are pockets of Slavs in different states.

It seems we are cousins however!  So I send you an agape smooch!  (My father left us when I was 3 so I have had very little involvement with that side of the family.  While the family may  have some old family recipes and a few words and such, I have none of that.)
