TOPIC: Hi all

Hi.  My name is Bert de Haan.  I live in Arthur Ontario.  I just completed my Home Inspection training through Carson Dunlop.
I was trying to decide between using Horizon and HIP.  One recommendation I got was that the technical support for HIP is second to none.  Reading some of the posts on this board I can see that the help provided is amazing.  I am not ready to purchase yet because I don't have my ducks in order to start the HI business.  I have pretty well decided that when the time comes, I will be using HIP as well as the website from here.
One question;  I am trying to think of a name for my company to be.  I kind of like the idea of "Benchmark Home Inspections" or "Hallmark Home Inspections."  My wife thinks this may run me into trouble for plagiarizing someone else's brand name. (Home Hardware and Hallmark cards.)
I hadn't thought of that.  I figured both words are normal English words so I should be fine.  Am I figuring correctly?

Good choice Too bad you're not farther West. I'm going to Edmonton on Sunday to give a talk on Monday.

You should be fine with either name as they aren't in related industries. When you file your LLC they will let you know if there's a conflict though. I know we have a few companies using HIP that go by Benchmark Home Inspections (no conflict unless they are in the same county in the US at least). Hallmark is just a word in the dictionary like you said: www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=...k&aq=f&aql=&aqi=&oq=

I like Benchmark better than Hallmark.

I have never personally met any of the HIP users that post including Dominic but many of these guys I have become friends with and they are knowledgeable, compassionate and are always willing to help. And there always is some good humor around.

I can not say enough about Dom, he is a very good friend and has helped me beyond explanation.

I would vote on Benchmark , as a name. To me it has a more Home related feel, if that makes sence ???
How did you like the carson/dunlop training? Did you do it online or in a class?
As I mentioned in my first post, I am enrolled to take the www.inspect4u.ca course in March 2010 inAlliston Ont.It is classroom training and on site training.I also would recommend the HIP software and to get it as soon as you can.I bought it Jan 1st and I am working on getting use to it so I can create a quick and complete report.I tried several demos of reporting software and found HIP to be the best for the dollar and also inspect4u trainers use it and state it is the best they have used.
