TOPIC: The right choice of words in a report.

Re: The right choice of words in a report. 15 years 2 months ago #21625

Good morning Dominic,

I have already met Keith (and Lauren) on several different occasions and I have to say, they were the ones who instilled into me that I should be very aware of what I put into a report and what terminology to use in order to avoid litigation.

They tried to include a lot of 'legal jargon' into the InspectVue program in an effort to protect their users, but in doing so, I think InspectVue became too wordy and way too expensive.

Please let me know when any of these guys plan to hold their next seminar, as I would love to attend.  Hopefully, it will be in San Diego, as it is only a 5 hour drive for me, besides which, I love the place.  The other benefit is, I will get to meet you too!

Interesting topic.

How do you describe a ceiling?  It really does not function (no on/off), so functions is not a posibility.  I use "appears serviceable". I cannot say "serviceable" because I have no way of testing its serivceability.  At the date and time of the inspection the ceiling appears serviceable.  When the client adds bunk water beds on the floor above, it would probably not remain serviceable for long. ;)

Ceiling appears to be in good condition, no water stains or holes were present. I don't think serviceable sounds right in this case.

You could always say its functional.  It is performing its function!   ;D  I dont think it sounds right but you could make that argument.  ::)
