TOPIC: Beware - Killer bee's.

Re: Beware - Killer bee's. 15 years 3 months ago #19935

There's a lot to think about there and when it happens so suddenly, you just do what you think is best.  Down here in the desert, there aren't too many water sources and I'm not sure my credit card would have impressed them.  They didn't seem to be that type.....LOL.

All joking aside, I'm sure you're right in as much as I would have been dead if I had been seriously alergic to their venom, but it's an experience certainly I don't want to go through again.

As for linking sites; I'm new around here and still finding my way around, but that sounds a good idea to me.  No matter how far apart we live, it never hurts to network with like minded professionals and seriously, thanks for the advice.

This is from a Scoutmaster (me) - The rule of thumb when that happens is to cover your face and ears as best as possible and roll on the ground.  Stings to your head and face are the most dangerous.  If there is a water source, try to use it - hose, pond, whatever.  Letting them sting you is a mistake as it loads you with the poison.  After the attack, try to remove as many stingers as possible as they continue to pump venom.  Do NOT remove them with your fingers as you will squish more venom inside you.  It is best to remove them by scraping, best with a credit card.

They probably dripped you with epinephrin at the hospital.  Had you been allergic you would have been dead in an hour.

Ray - I don't think we are linked.  If you want to link sites, let me know off line.

Part of the concern with being stung that many times is you can become allergic to them if you weren't all ready.  Then the next time you get stung by just one bee, it could kill you.  Not something I want to go through any way you look at it!!!  lol

Ray - I know when you are going through it there is no time to think.  An immediate covering of the head is important, like with your shirt or something, and if you could get to a hose that would be good.  The credit card, or fingernails, are for after the fact to remove any remaining stingers still in you.  It's important to remove anything remaining because venom is still being injected!

I don't know if you will become allergic if not before.  Have not heard that but every body is different and reacts differently to changes in the endocrine system.  That venom can create changes to the system.  So, be careful!
