TOPIC: Server Downtime

Hi Guys,

Sorry about the server down time this morning. We had a Denial of Service (DDOS) attack from somewhere in Russia. These are basically impossible to block off as they flood the server with data. We're finally able to reroute traffic and get everything back up, but we're still doing some tweaking. You can read more about the fun of DDOS here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_attack

Found out another part of the problem while trying to track these guys down. The server was only running with half the ram it's supposed to be using. Looks like when they swapped the servers case a few months back for a new power supply they forgot to add the rest of the ram in, or it just happened to go bad since then. Either way, without that ram the system could only handle half the requests it usually could. It's been added now (hence the short downtime while the server was rebooted an hour ago). You should notice the whole site running faster as a result as well.
