Kenneth, it is part of almost every standard of practice to describe the amperage and voltage of a service. I always check the main breaker for some type of markings. The panel back box may have an information label on it, but reliability is questionable. The panel cover usually has information on it, but is unreliable do to the possibility of it being a replacement cover.
