Yes, it was a little time consuming to wade through all those pictures.  But I found that the actual inspection went very smooth.  No fumbling with a voice recorder (though I did use it on the AC compressor data tag that was faded beyond anything my camera would pick up) or trying to write something down.
A tablet is on my "to get" list...of course, I just had great couple weeks, and now nothing again! 

500+ pics... WOW casey, look forward to seeing you at the Thermal Infrared meeting on January 29th. Hey, just wanted to make sure you got the new meeting location as well...Sent you an email! I only take around 100 pictures mostly defects.... I am going to definitely think about doing more and weeding through the pictures. I would like too avoid the you missed this scenario... I do take a lot of notes on my hand held PDA which stores my report.. But this too will change.. We can talk at the meeting...

Yes Rob, I did receive the emails about the new location for the 29th of Jan.  Thanks for the updates, I'm assuming it's moving due to overwhelming response on attendance???   
So far, the umpteen million pictures has worked; like Bill said, only about 10% or so make the report.  That will change for the winter; I try to include pictures of things I can't see, and with over 30 inches of snow this month (and getting more as I type), those roofs, driveways, even siding in some areas is buried right now.  And yes, ALL pictures I take on each inspection are stored safely away, labeled and easy to get to for future reference.

I have more work this week, but I am not looking forward to stomping through 4-5 foot drifts...Have you run into the listings not clearing walks or entries of driveways...I have though about snow shoes to get over some of those drifts..Going to have to use the neighbors driveway to walk up on Wednesdays. Put a Radon tester in on Friday and man was that place buried....

I actually pack my Muck Boots on.  They're really warm, come up to my knees and waterproof!  Then just change boots when I head inside.  I'm booked through Wednesday, assuming I can dig out from this latest "Snownami"!  Yes, many of the listings aren't shoveled.  I actually bring a shovel with me, but I don't waste time doing someone else's job for them. 

I take a lot of pictures for notes also, but what I find works is doing the inspection and doing defects then go back except for attic, roof, etc. and take all the general pictures before I leave. That way there are not a bunch of pictures to sort through, all the defects are in front, and I do a quick walk around to make sure I have not forgotten anything. Like Bill says do what works for you. I also (most of the time) do the report during the inspection and drop pictures in when I get home. Saves me a bunch of time and no need to take a ton of notes. Surprisingly it doesn't add a lot of time to the inspection
