If anybody is still reading this post, it is basically this when it comes to AC condensers. Electricians wire to the minimum and breaker to the maximum. In other words if the largest load amps is 21.6 amps and it says maximum breaker is 40 amps. You should see a 40 amp breaker when #10 wire on it in the electrical panel. The 80% load on a wire still applies. A #12 wire would be to small of a wire but a #8 wire is not required.
