TOPIC: A Little Help

A Little Help 14 years 1 month ago #35895

Hey all - I got an email from somebody, not a client, who wants to know what may have caused this.

There is a scorch and burned spot about 6" from the front porch light.  The light is secured properly to the base.  There is no scorched spot on or scorching coming from the light or the base.

It is extremely unlikely that there would be wiring inside the siding beside the front door.

A contractor speculated that this could have been caused by the sun shining through the glass.

I don't think so.

What do you think?

Jay

The pics are a little small to realy see.

Grills, skylights. windows have caused issues to vinyl siding.

If the sun did shine thru the glass it could act like a magnifier.

I have no answer for you.

Maybe a video camera on a sunny day to monitor the light/siding.

The melt and the scorch indicate a flash to me, not slow melt from the sun.

But, admittedly, I am not sure.

Pictures are small and hard to make out detail...

Maybe xmas lighting hung around doorway shorted or bulb burst causing damage?

Solar flares?

She says there were never Christmas lights hanging there.  I speculated a cigarette lighter.  They want me to go by tomorrow to have a look at it with the IR camera to see if there is any untoward heat at the light fixture or beside the door.  We'll see!
