TOPIC: Sit down or walk around?

Could use some advice on the most efficient use of HIP.  I've currently got a laptop which I planned on using to do reports on site, but I've noticed a lot of inspectors recommending tablet PCs. 

Question is, for guys who do reports on site, do you stop periodically and take notes or do you walk with the tablet in hand?  My first instinct is to use HIP the same way I've been doing the paper reports (for 7 hand cramping years) and stop 2-3 times during the inspection and fill out the report.  I obviously can't carry around a laptop, but maybe using a tablet and carrying it with me is more efficient.

Can anyone share some pros and cons?

If you have a tablet you carry it around most of the time (no attic or crawlspace). Otherwise just use a laptop.

Getting into a bad habit on the last 3 inspections as they had numerous issues and the weather was heavy rain/snow so I did most of the exterior and portions of the mechanicals at home. Adds to the report time.

Took me awhile to get to job today as white nuckle driving. But no tsunomies around here. Only flooding, blizzards and winter has been around to long.

I understand that feeling.  I have three kids under 6 and no separate office space.  That's why I would rather do reports on site and so I have to keep the reporting time down.

I get annoyed just dealing with a flashlight and outlet tester.  There's an idea, make a flashlight which is a light, tick tracer, outlet tester, etc.  The Inspector Multi-tool.

How do you juggle a flashlight, tablet and any other tools you might pull out randomly? Does inserting info on the fly make the data entry quicker?

I have multiple flashlights, one is handsfree, one on belt holder. I carry a tool bag/open top with me room to room. Have a clipboard with house sketch and Q1 computer to enter data.

One style of using a tablet is when you enter a room, you lean the tablet up against the door frame.  You inspect that room.  Once you have found 2 defects, go enter the defects and then go back to inspecting the room.  When you leave the room, carry the tablet to next room and set down in door frame.  By placeing in door frame, you have to trip over it to leave so don't forget it.  It also frees up your hands to inspect.
