TOPIC: Help deciding on computer

Re: Help deciding on computer 13 years 8 months ago #39510

Hi Gary,

Of course you can add photos as you inspect ;) Download the program and take it for a spin.

Office is a huge program and extremely slow on slower machines. Yes, keep it a home inspection/internet browsing machine

Started with the program a couple months ago, tried a couple of lab tops and an older Fuijitsu tablet.  Ready to hang it up an go back to my old program and my HP211's, hand held.  Just go the 2 go PC. Finished my first inspection on site, pictures and all, cool. It is a simple single purpose machine, but it works  just saying for anyone interested

Dom:
I am also considering getting the 2goPC and regarding your comment on not needing office, is this comment considering the new computer will be just used for home inspection use and not for normal everyday use such as e-mail, web surfing etc?
Also, I am considering switching to HIP software, (you already have my website CadillacHomeInspector.com) and I also wonder if there is a feature where you can enter your photos into the program "on the fly" as you are doing the inspection.

Gary, I have used many types of computer for inspections since 2003 and done over 3000 inspections on them.  My preference has always been a slate form tablet. I started with a cheap one to test the workability of the form factor for this work. They are SWEET!
I used a Motion LE1600 for years until I finally killed it. Switched to an HP convertible but hated it. POS machine.
currently I have reverted to a couple of used Motion tablets, a M-1400 and an LS-800 that I got for >$200 each from another inspector. I upgraded the hard drives and re-installed the OS so I have a clean start.  They work great and only cost 1/4 of what a new tablet would have cost me. Check eBay, they have a ton of them.  I would go with the M-1400 or if you want a better one, the LE-1600.  The newest LE-1900 is pretty spendy and there's no need to spend that kind of bucks for just doing inspections.
