My spelling and the Spell checker sucks.
Don't even come close most of the times.

Are there particular words you're having issues with? The spell checker uses a large online public dictionary ( www.wiktionary.org/ )

Is there a setting I can choose that will tell me when I fail to check a rating box before moving on to another section? I only find out now when I process the report and see there is no X.

The tab along the top will only change to green if you have a rating checked.

I have noticed the same thing Roy mentioned with spell-check.  For me, it's hard to say if it particular words, or the way I happened to spell it:)  Often it will only get the "copy cut past" option instead of spell-check options. I once ended up with "Ball Buster" instead of "Baluster";...When the Attorney's secretary called me it was a good laugh....she wont let me forget it!

I usually have to paste in word to get the proper spelling at times.
